Ages 8 years - 16 years
Ardmay House International Summer School is a boutique, family-run summer camp for young people aged from 8 – 16 years old set in the beautiful Scottish countryside.
Offering students a unique summer experience where they take part in exciting adventure activities whilst fully immersed in the English language. Proud winner of the 2016 Scottish Thistle Award for Tourism, and the BETA British Youth Travel Bronze Award for 'Best Educational Product' and we have been chosen as The Best UK Camp. Based in the heart of Scotland’s first national park, we are committed to the environment and the natural area.
Accommodation and Facilities
Students sleep in spacious dorm-style rooms (with bunk beds), each named after one of the beautiful islands of Scotland’s West Coast. The rooms sleep 4, 6 or 8 students of a similar age.
There is a separate wing of the house for girls and boys, each with their own toilets and showers.
Location
Dating from 1854 the house was originally built as a Victorian fishing lodge. Although the house has been comprehensively refurbished in recent years, it manages to retain its distinctive character.
The house is located in its own private grounds and their own private beach with a seating area, looking out onto the stunning scenery of Loch Long and the surrounding mountains.
Ardmay House is located just outside the village of Arrochar in the heart of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. It provides the perfect setting for a variety of outdoor activities including canoeing, orienteering and abseiling.
The Programme
Adventure English
As well as 15 hours of English lessons each week (taught by fully qualified, native speakers), students experience adventure activities they may have never tried before whilst exploring the beautiful Scottish countryside. English lessons take place over half a day, leaving the rest of the day for adventure activities. We teach English for communication and focus on speaking, listening and topic- based learning. Students have countless opportunities to try out the language that they learn in real-life situations whilst on excursions to some of Scotland’s top attractions.
Ardmay Adventure
For native English speakers, or those who already have a high level of English, our Ardmay Adventure programme is the ideal option. Students take place in two half-day activity sessions each day. Activities range from canoeing and kayaking to rock-climbing, abseiling and mountaineering. Students explore the natural environment on forest walks and nature trains and bring out their inner explorer in den building and mountain adventure days. There is a minimum age of 12 years old for this programme.
In the evenings, all students take part in our fun and varied evening activity programme which includes Scottish Nights, the Ardmay Olympics, Murder Mystery Night, Fashion Show and Film Night.
