In its most recent OFSTED rating Loughborough College received an Outstanding for its apprenticeships, including elite sport apprenticeships.
Alongside its partnership with the FCV International Football Academy, Loughborough College support a number of professional football clubs including Leicester City, Derby County, Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest to name a few. Loughborough College students and alumni have also delivered on the international stage, achieving 4 medals at the Rio Olympics and an incredible 30 medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which would have seen Loughborough College finish 9th in the medal table if they were a country.
Course Information
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) is a two-year course, requiring 15 hours of study per week, which are fitted in around the football training. The vocational course
explores different areas of employment in the sports sector, and is perfect for those aspiring to a career in sport.
FCV International Football Academy can now offer the BTEC course to full-time students who start with us in January of each year, as well as the regualr September starters.
Course Content
The course consists of 19 units which explore a variety of different areas, including:
- Anatomy and Physiology and Physiology of Fitness
- Sports coaching and Assessing Risk
- Technical and Tactical Skills
- Analysis of Sports Performance
- Fitness testing and Fitness Training and Programming
- Sports Injuries
- Sports Psychology
- Talent Identification
- Current issues in sport
Assessment
The course is delivered in a vocational manner, with assessments ranging from written reports, portfolios and posters to verbal assessments, presentations, and practical observations. During the first-year, students will study the BTEC 90 Credit Diploma, which on successful completion will enable them to progress onto the BTEC Extended Diploma in year two.
Entry requirements
Students studying a BTEC Extended Diploma programme should normally have achieved 5 GCSE’s at Grade C/4 and above, including one of either English and Maths (with the other grade no lower than a D/3), or the equivalent in their own country. Alternatively, students who have studied at Level 2 Diploma/Certificate or a BTEC First Diploma in a related subject should have achieved at least Merit grades.
For those students that do not meet the necessary entry requirements, the Academy may offer the opportunity to study an OCR Level 2 Sports Qualification as an alternative.
