Hakeem Olajuwon Basketball Summer Camp

The 3rd Hakeem Olajuwon Basketball Summer Camp from Monday 30th July – Friday 3rd August 2018

Following the amazing success of our first two summer camps with Hakeem Olajuwon, we are now delighted to confirm that the 2018 camp will go ahead from Monday 30th July until Friday 3rd August. The cost of the camp remains the same as last year at £375 for Residential and £275 Non-Residential.

The camp will again be supported by NBA Legend and City of Birmingham Rockets Club Director Hakeem ‘The Dream’ Olajuwon and will be overseen by the experienced Peter Mintoft. Some outstanding overseas coaches will shortly be announced to work alongside an array of the best and most experienced development coaches from the club and around the UK chosen by Hakeem.

Residential campers will be accommodated in the nearby Aston University halls of residence. The excellent facilities include en suite rooms for every camper with shared kitchen/breakfast rooms within each flat.

Each morning the campers will make the short journey to our playing facilities where they will take part in five full days of basketball activity led by our skilled and experience camp coaching staff.

Non-residential campers will arrive at the playing venue for a 9am start on each day. All campers will receive two full meals during each day of camp with residential campers eating breakfast at the accommodation at the start of the day.

Safety is paramount, so in addition to security officers, there is 24-hour CCTV and entry doors to all accommodation buildings have self-closing and self-locking devices fitted.

Whilst we know how much our campers will enjoy the week, we fully understand that many parents will have questions and concerns relating to their child/children being away from home. We are proud of the high level of welfare support that our off court camp staff provide. Chaperones are appointed to support the needs of every residential camper, whilst our camp counselors ensure that any issues raised during the day are dealt with fairly and promptly. We believe this support service ensures maximum enjoyment for all participants.

TYPICAL DAILY ACTIVITIES SCHEDULE:

08:00h

· A typical day for residential campers will start with breakfast around 8 am taken at the camp accommodation, Birmingham City University. These fabulous halls of residence have a communal kitchen and eating area on each floor which will be supervised by our camp counselors.

· Campers will then be taken into our playing facilities at Nechells Wellbeing Centre and Heartlands Academy to begin the day’s on court activities.

Morning:

· Mornings will consist of daily dynamic warm ups, stretching and motor skills delivered by our strength and conditioning coaches to prepare campers for the day’s activities.

· Focussed teaching on a range of fundamental skill sets such as shooting, ball handling, passing, game moves, etc delivered by a range of the top coaches in the UK and our Head Coaches.

Lunch:

· Focussed teaching on a range of fundamental skill sets such as shooting, ball handling, passing, game moves, etc delivered by a range of the top coaches in the UK and our Head Coaches.

Afternoon:

· Individual tests and monitoring will be typically performed on specific game movements.

· Competitive game situations including full court offensive and defensive pressure, 1 on 1, 2 on 2 and 3 on 3 situations.

· Recovery and cool down.

· Recovery and cool down.

Evening:

· Dinner served before campers are transported back to the camp accommodation.

This camp will be no doubt once again be an amazing experience for everyone participating. Hakeem and the camp staff are extremely excited and proud to be bringing this camp back to Birmingham again.
