Combine a bespoke surf training course with English language classes which address your unique needs. Based in the stunning and ‘quintessentially British’ coast of North Cornwall, Focus Study Tours constructs your programme based on what is highlighted in your arrival assessments. These assessments are conducted for both your language and your surfing course.

SURFING

Beginners and Early Levels

What you will learn depends on what you already know but examples include standing up and taking off, developing the foundation techniques involved in reading and selecting waves, catching waves in the correct spot, moving along the wave by effectively harnessing its momentum, and, potentially, basic manoeuvres including trimming turns.

Higher Levels

Examples of what you will learn include developing correct positioning, building on the manoeuvres you know and introducing new ones, late take offs, improving wave selection and finding the best line for the wave. We also aim to identify which aspects of your surfing restrict your progression and in turn develop your ability to self-correct whilst free surfing.

ENGLISH

As with the sporting aspect of the course your individual needs form the basis of your programme. Group lessons are adjusted according to the common class needs identified in the assessment. These are then delivered alongside individual feedback sessions which allow you to work on those areas which are unique to you.

All aspects of language are addressed but the focus is on developing accurate spoken English, allowing you to implement what you learn in real life situations.

Extracurricular Activities and Accommodation

Evening activities provide you with the opportunity to speak English in a natural setting, often with native speakers. They include games and barbecues on the beach, football-golf, archery, bowling and many other fun activities. The weekend excursions also allow you to use English in a natural and real environment and learn about local culture in an interactive way.

Accommodation is with local families selected for their genuine desire to participate in a cultural exchange. Students are not placed in the same family as another student of the same nationality and we do not use agencies.

Our aim is to ensure that you progress in each aspect of the course: the language, the sport and the extracurricular activities. We work with you to develop your skills and assist you in becoming a more independent learner.
